Our shady bush location provides a variety of natural habitats including remnant softwood scrub, brigalow scrub, eucalypt areas and grassland. The lake shore and aquatic areas provide a varying background depending on water levels. We are currently working with a local organisation to develop some environmentally focused activities that will enhance student understanding of our natural surroundings.
Prolific bird life is a feature of the lake with a number of seasonal visitors returning year after year. Whistling kites circle overhead while graceful Brolgas walk behind nesting colonies of Pelicans and Royal Spoonbills.
Visiting students may be lucky enough to see echidnas and possums around the camp area. We have seen Koalas in the area but it is a rare event.
The Atlas of Living Australia provides information on the bio diversity of our region. We invite visiting groups to contribute their sightings of plants and animals to this great resource.
We enjoy our natural bush environment and work hard to ensure visitor safety. However students will be sharing the school with harmful insects, snakes and seasonal magpies!
