Environment

Students can change pace to match the natural rythyms of our peaceful waterside environment. A digital detox and less distractions adds to the experience of camp.

Teamwork

Working effectively with others is a critical 21st century skill. Students support each other and combine individual strengths to enhance the group experience.

Exploration

Nature’s classroom is the setting for learning about place, relationships with others and self. Students have opportunities to explore and discover through experiential learning.

Challenge

Developing and refining strategies to deal with obstacles. The focus is on the attempt rather than the outcome and then reflecting on what was learned to guide future efforts.

Welcome to Camp Fairbairn Outdoor Education Centre

Camp Fairbairn Outdoor Education Centre (CFOEC) is a unique co-educational school situated on the foreshore of Fairbairn Dam. Located 25km south of Emerald in the Central Highlands. CFOEC has access to a large tract of varied bushland and the water environment of Lake Maraboon. It is a Band 7 school operated by Education Queensland and has a permanent staff of a Principal, three registered teachers and three skilled ancillary officers.

Our core business is delivering curriculum based outdoor activities for school groups in a residential camp setting. In addition we are able to tailor developmental and special programs to suit the needs of visiting groups. The centre is available for community groups with or without CFOEC staff.

Our camp philosophy is around building success through teamwork and challenge. Each visiting group comes with a unique story and our small team of professional staff will work with you to achieve a positive outcome from the camp experience.

High Challenge

Camp Fairbairn offers a variety of graduated high challenge activities to suit your year level, group size and desired outcomes. There is a team focus with our activities where students will rely on their peers for support to achieve their goals. High Challenge provides leadership opportunities and a chance for students to go outside their comfort zone. An exciting and rewarding experience.

Mapping Curriculum

The General Capabilities with a focus on elements of 'Personal and Social Capability' and 'Critical and Creative Thinking' have guided development of the CFOEC curriculum model delivered using an experiential learning pedagogy. To build success students will need to model and reflect on behaviours rather than know specific content. Students have the opportunity to “walk the walk” across multiple contexts to build an appreciation that the learning is transferable.
