An Education Queensland school, Camp Fairbairn is a residential facility that is able to offer varied outdoor programs to suit school and community groups across the P-12 spectrum. Our curriculum goals and pedagogy are largely informed by the Personal and Social Capability strand of the Australian Curriculum. Our mission is to help students and groups "Build Success through Teamwork and Challenge".
Facilities are basic but adequate and students are encouraged to take part in tasks such as meal preparation and looking after their group environment. Activities are offered at a number of levels, as an example the canoeing activity offered to upper primary students is different to that offered to lower secondary students and can be combined with an overnight camp at a bush site for all year levels.
Programs and activities are structured to achieve outcomes at a group and individual level. The camp experience provides an opportunity to develop and demonstrate understanding of personal and social capability elements in practical situations. Problem solving in either deliberate scenarios or as part of working effectively with others encourages and develops higher order thinking skills to achieve success.
In many cases we have built long term relationships with visiting schools who book with us year after year. CFOEC staff take pride in our "can do" approach as evidenced by the development of an ongoing program that sees our staff visiting Longreach State School to run a camps for both Year 3 and Year 4 students. We are committed to ongoing improvement and always happy to discuss options that will contribute to improved outcomes for your group.
